Porter n Cody

SPUNDAE APRIL 8 2006 w/DJ Dan, Cody Lee, Porter Tinsley & POCKET:::::::::::::So, opening up for DJ Dan was just about the coolest thing ever last week. Standing in the main

room of Spundae at the decks with Jesse Wright was just about as good as it gets for a DJ in Los Angeles. For me, I'm used to my underground crowd of fuzzy-jacket-wearing-tattooed burners with spikes through their ears and stuff, but when I saw packs of asian club kid girls walking around the club at 10 pm I knew I wasn't in Kansas anymore.

Jesse and I spent half a dozen practice sessions taming ourselves to build a set from the bottom up, and we didjust like we said we would: starting with minimal techno (or as he likes to call it, minimal tech-house) and by our last twenty minutes we were playing to a full main room and laying the smack-down with rounded out bassy true techhouse. When they turned the (enter Dr. Evil's voice) LA-ZERS on, I knew it was for real and so did he so we looked at each other and said "I think we can step it up a notch now." So he busted out his signature tracks and I started dropping my Porter Mortor ElectroHouse. See, Spundae isn't like any other club. The people that go there are serious about their DJs and their dance music. They don't fuck around, and they don't necessarily like just anybody tha

t walks through the door to play. I've been there when headliners have sucked and the crowd feels it too...it's ugly. I've also been there when joe-schmo walks in and wins the crowd over and have felt the collective love. Not sure if they loved or hated me that night, but it felt really good and I think we did an awesome job. Every room was packed, and the party buses from San Diego are just about the coolest thing I'd heard of. DJ Blue, who played the second room, brought two full party buses up from San Diego. How do ya like that? Either way, I had a blast and met so many people after

I played it's hard to remember it all (the vodka crans helped....) There were not enough hours in the night that night. I handed out a bunch of cds, stickers etc. I hope you got one. I know POCKET will be invited back and I hope you are there next time,

because damn those POCKETS know how to party. Did anyone else see the Pocket Rocket above the DJ booth in the second room? How awesome is that thing? I feel like I need "Porter Mortar's" or something for ALL THE BOMBS THAT WERE DROPPED THAT NIGHT! All in all, the DJs played hard (Cody Lee never ceases to impress me and it was nice to hear DJ Dan playing hard) and so did the crowd. I loved having that San Diego contingent there, I love the crowd in SD and love playing for them - it was nice to have a little slice of the SD pie that night to add to the overall flavor of the club. I can't wait to go back, I love that place.

So I'm one of the millions of people who contribute to Piracy by using LimeWire. I admit it. I've got LimeWire down to a pscience though since most of the time there's just so much crap you have to wade through to find the good files of movies and music.
For instance, when I search for IMAX (I love love love documentaries) I find for example, "The Elements of Sharks" with 12 users hosting it. From there I start downloading it and then, here's the secret to finding more great stuff that might not have appeared during your initial search: click "browse host."
It's a great way to find additional movies and such.
The greater amusement part of it is that you get to see all the stuff that's on joeschmoe's PC. I gotta tell you, there are some FREAKS out there. You'll see everything on one PC from "Paul Van Dyk 2 Disc Trance Series" to Britney bootlegs all on the same PC. The best ones though, are the ones that you find when searching for like, BBC specials and you see that IP address number 93.9239.0229 has not only the entire Marty Stauffer collection on his PC, but he also has Josh Grobin's Christmas Album, gospel soft rock and then a whole series of "Dungeon Sluts 4" and "Beast Master 5" films from the 70's.
God I love the Internet.
