What's new around Porter

So, I just read this and thought it was hilarious: Tootie from Facts of Life grew up to be Condoleeza Rice.

I don't know what my sick fascination is with the name Condoleezza Rice is, but I can't stop giggling every time I think of it or say it. Am I alone?

So, today, while I stood outside in the rain trying to get into my dead car (left my lights on) sick as a dog outside the grocery store, I was remembering the last time I was there. The incident was a few weeks ago - I went to that very store near my house with Audra, and she was giggling and laughing at me the entire time, but wouldn't tell me why. She just kept saying "I rule, and you drool" or something ridiculously third grade like that.

As I shopped around the semi-busy store for groceries, I thought of nothing except "Is Ragu better than Emeril's?" and "Cage free" vs "Price cut"...hmmm.

It wasn't until about 40 minutes into our outing at the store that she finally burst out with "All I have to say is that I RULE AT TAPE WARS!"

Tape wars is a game we started in the hospital one day while she was getting her wrist x-rayed. To make the visit more fun, I kept sticking tape on her whereever we went and it turned into a game of "Got you Last!" This was weeks ago, however, and the game had long since been forgotten by me. But not by her, (she always lost.)

So when she boasted about being the all time ruler of the Scotch Tape wars, I reached around to my bottom - where I didn't just find a piece of tape. She had managed to somehow, without my knowledge, post a sign on my ass that read "I LOVE MY ASS!!!"

And I had been walking around with it on me all ...night...long.

And shivering cold, wet, sick, coughing, feverish outside of the damn store, I couldn't decide which fate was worse - Loving my ass so that all the world could see, or BEING an ass that left her lights on and was now assed out of her car with a dead battery and a key that sticks in the door lock.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh good times!

Regardless, the news gets worse for me, because I just got an email from one of my all time favorites, Appogee. http://www.appogeemusic.com Apparently, Appogee is playing tomorrow night and I CAN'T GO BECAUSE I HAVE THE PLAGUE!!!

So, if you are looking for something to do tomorrow, please go see this guy - he rocks and his music is amazing (and he's cute, but I'm a lesbian so don't quote me on that.)

Holy Crap! Was that the BEST NEW YEARS EVE PARTY YOU'VE EVER BEEN TO?????

It totally topped the time in 1998 when me and some friends of mine ended up in a taxi cab from The Holy Cow with a pair of 62 year old swingers, a drunk judge named Harold, and a taxi driver from hell. It was pouring rain and we ended up drinking Kessler at the Conga Room at the Fairmont and counting down to midnight. We were the only ones under 45 and also the only ones that walked in like we owned the joint so none of us had to fork out the 50 bones it cost to get in. Later, I am told, we would hail a taxi that ended up being a limo and driving around SF hanging out of the roof in the pouring rain.

I have no idea what happened after that.

HOWEVER - a few days ago brought back that same crazy energy and that "anything can happen" feeling. What a great party. The Do Lab DID an awesome job decorating the main room, the djs and live acts were fabulous, and everyone one of you looked beautiful! What dreams!

Thanks to everyone that came out to party - that was the best party in Los Angeles in a loooooong time, and that says a lot considering the calibur of talent and parties we throw around here. And there's more to come -- 2005 is going to be an awesome year in terms of events and talent. I'm already re-inventing my sets and songlists and even producing a few of my own in the next month, so you'll have some entirely new music to hear.

People I want to thank for making this New Year's Eve that much more than it would have been otherwise for me:

DJ Wolfie www.djwolfie.com - for adding me to that tremendous line-up of who's who on the west coast in the main room, and being an awesome DJ and a close friend.

The Do Lab www.thedolab.com - for DOING everything that they say they'll do and more. This company kicks ass in terms of event production and look for more great parties from them soon. They are close friends and a pillar of this community.

The Mutaytor www.themutaytor.com - plot... scheme ...toil ..smash ...repeat. Our headliners in the main room. The only thing I want to know is...how can the Mutaytor play such smashingly awesome banging music and the speakers don't go out, but then lil' ol' me gets up there and drops a record and the entire sound system shuts down? That was awesome! Thanks to all of the performers and crew of the Mutaytor for being such badasses. The live bass kicks ass.

The Naked Loft - for hosting a kick ass afterparty and generally kicking ass in support of me. All of those "I love Porter" stickers you saw were courtesy of The Naked Loft. Great parties, great people. Look for one coming up on Jan 21st...details on my site soon.

Dream Circus www.dreamcircus.com - for hosting much of the party and overseeing many of the decoration in the various rooms. Famous for the "I am" parties, and a talented group of visual performers.

And thanks to Joegh, Bava and everyone else that planned and promoted, as well as a great big beat to the dozens of performers involved.

And the photographers of the evening, which always make me look so damn good.

Please follow these links to find fab photos of the event:

Pixie - www.pixieonline.com - this girl makes me look so good all of the time, and let's face it, that's hard to do! Photos are up now on her site!

Paynie - www.paynie.com - find party photos here: http://homepage.mac.com/paynie/PayniePix/PhotoAlbum56.html

Josh - www.curiousjosh.com - many great parties have been captured by Josh. He rocks!

Wolfie - www.djwolfie.com - where you find Wolfie, you find a camera (and a banner.) Photos up now!

I also want to give a quick shout out to Dream's "Lucent Dossier Vaudevillians" for a performance like I've never seen at an event like this. These were the dancers in the main room, wearing white and tearing it up. Dream choreographed the entire thing, and although I think she may have planned the costumes, I think she brought in a staff to help, so I wanted to thank them for knocking me on my ass with such a great number. I look forward to seeing more of what this girl can do at parties in the future. www.thedolab.com to contact her.

Anyway, thanks again for the emails, and the love. I have received such great emails over the last few days about how much you guys enjoyed my set and the party as a whole - I wanted to kick out some props to others who deserve it too. I especially love the fact that (and I'm spelling her name wrong) yannicka showed up to the afterparty bearing gifts of tequila and a home made tshirt for me.

Holy crap what great party. Anon Salon was awesome for many reasons, the first being a great crowd - man were you people good looking! Thanks to the Naked Loft for hosting the unofficial afterparty for The Mutaytor, The Do Lab and The Orangekids. It was great to see so many orange faces at the party. The Do Lab decked out the pics and I'm sure you'll be seeing them all over the net soon. www.thedolab.com for more information on the next big event: Valentine's Day (and my birthday bash!)
