Hilton is the new Kennedy.Can anyone tell me what is the appeal of Paris Hilton? Maybe I'm just a hairy-arm-pitted liberal feminist (I am SO not) but I don't get it. It's like, network television exists to annoy the crap out of me everytime I turn on the television. Which, admittedly, isn't that often, since the only time I watch tv is at the Naked Loft.
However, last night I found myself flipping through the channels and came across Nicole Ricci and Paris Hilton doing an ad for the "teen choice awards" which apparently airs tonight. In between Ryan Seacrest's dumb highlights, Paris Hilton's ass crack, and someone in a "confessional room" talking about someone else getting the "most assistants to do challenges for the bachelor on Survivor Island" and being voted out of the house/island/apartment/off the planet, I'm just not identifying with television anymore. And I'd like to point out how many women are murdered every year, so why is every network television station talking non-stop about Scott Peterson's lover? Aren't we in a war because our president lied to us and hundreds of people dying everyday from scandals revolving around corporate America yet we're consumed by what is going to happen on Extreme Makeover? I want to know more about the Halliburton settlement and why it's okay to pay money to "just make things go away."
Is it just me? Am I the one who's out of touch, or is it really the Dumbing of America?
On a lighter note, football preseason started this week, and BOY am I glad I'm not Jeff Garcia. Imagine being a bay-area homegrown quarterback, playing for the 49ers in the best city in the freakin' WORLD and then being shipped off to CLEVELAND to play for the Brown's. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure CLEVELAND is a lovely little town and that there's a lot to do, but I fear for my little gay Jeff.
