Rumors: 07.2004What's new around Porter |
27.7.04For those of you that missed Lightning in a Bottle 5 -- wow. It was as cool as a really cool shower in a loft on a hot day with five of your closest friends. Ahem. The Do Lab really outdid themselves this time...here's my 5 favorite moments from LIB5: 1. Body Painting: I was curious as to what this HUGE crowd was for, so I squeezed in between 2 dudes and saw that 5 girls were standing together with their arms around each other getting body painted. What was hilarious about this was that 19 guys and zero women were standing around watching this all happen. I asked the photographer to take a shot of the crowd watching "art" as it happened - ie: a bunch of dudes watching chicks get their nipples painted. LOL...if the photographer is getting this -- send me the pics and I'll post them on my site. 2. The televisions in the middle of the black forest with snow screens. Talk about surreal. Would have been cooler if the Paris Hilton sex tape was playing. Maybe next year. 3. The three girls on the Whump! dance floor that said "Pssst-- that's Porter Tinsley" as I walked by. Sweet! I feel so Sunset Blvd now....Mr. Demille....I'm ready for my close up. Dale and I have a great idea for "Porter Supporters" -- tell me that's not the best idea in the world for a bra!!! You know you would SO buy one... 4. Reverand Dave from the Serotonins being so cracked at dawn that all he could do was flop around the bean bag while big Christian watched in hallucinatory horror at whether or not Dave was "really there" or not. 5. Watching every single girl at the party at one point or another frolick through the giant fake sunflower patch. Everything I love about girls is summed up in those few moments watching them dance through the sunflowers. (And for a tie for #5 -- walking back in the pitch black from my car and hearing Guns and Roses being sung by a bunch of drunkards in a tent, stopping and then realizing, "oh wait, those are my friends I've been looking for all damn night!") 26.7.04So it's 10 pm and I'm sitting here listening to my competition rack up the beats on my decks -- DJ Audra is on the rise, ladies and gents. Watch out. Here she comes. lol... 21.7.04So my girlfriend and I are walking back from sushi last night, and she says to me, "I got a new toothbrush for your place." And I thought for a second and said, "You already have a toothbrush at my place." And she says, "No no. That one's old and gross." I said, "How old is it?" She said, "it's like, over 2 months old." Okay, maybe I'm being a little judgemental here, but two months? I shook my head."Baby, I've had my same toothbrush I have for like, a year." Audra goes, "I know, it's gross." Did anyone ever see "As Good As It Gets?" with Jack Nicholson and whatshername from that one show that was never funny? Helen Hunt or something? Yeah, Jack's character in that film uses one bar of soap once and then throws it away. Granted, he's obsessive-compulsive and has to lock and unlock his door five times before he actually locks it for good and then walks away from the door, but I thought about Audra's toothbrush dilemma and said: "Sweetheart, you use a toothbrush a month, and you throw away your razors after one use. Has anyone ever told you how neurotic you are?"And I'm laughing, because these are the little things you fall in love with about another person. Those little nuances, those little...thingies that make them who they are. And we continue to walk, and maybe it's because I beat her in our game of "Slugbug" earlier that night (she soooo lost) but she gets sort of quiet for a few seconds, mulling over her options for response. After a minute she puffed up and furrowed her brow and then she says really loud and defiant: "Well! YOU like Boy Bands!" And she huffed away. Good point. But that doesn't change the fact that she still sucks at Slugbug. Game on! 8.7.04So I'm recovering from the last few gigs (still) -- especially Electric Daisy Carnival and Burn on the Fourth -- by far, despite the speakers blazing-a-fire, the fist fight at EDC, and my severe bronchitus that I now proudly share with my girlfriend, the last few months have been a blur of parties and clubs and dancing and little hotties sprinkled all over the last few venues (psst - that's you!)I'm glad to say, as much as I enjoy playing music for you all, that the next two weeks I am laying low. I have to recover my health 100 percent because the last two weeks in July are filled with some really great events that I want to give my all to. (Plus, my girlfriend will kill me if I don't get better!) I'm working on some ideas right now to get you all out in the sun for some daytime fun, so stay tuned for that as well. For those of you that were with me at Burn, you witnessed some serious fun-ness. DJ N8 tuned in to the main stage and dropped some bad ass breaks with me, taking you all on a rollercoaster ride of delicious beats and mayhem. Big thanks to N8, who is an awesome DJ, for breaking up the monotony of my record collection as of late. And thanks to everyone that came out for night two of some dusty laser filled fun! Read my lips: no new records were played at Burn (during my set anyway). ha haha...but that's going to change! I have had so many compliments from people about my record selection, and I thank you all for that -- however, the time has come for some serious revamping and record shopping! At the next forest party, which I urge you to take advantage of, you will hear an all new style and set from Ms. Tinsley -- unlike anything you've heard her play before. no no no, I haven't gone all 818 hip hop on ya (yet), just trying to keep things fresh and exciting for you kids that for some reason keep coming out to dance to my crazy records! The info for Lightning in a Bottle 5 is below, and I urge you to get presales if at all possible. This is a great event coming up that I'm truly proud to be a part of -- the Flemmings and Weekend Pass have thrown this event for the last five years and it's grown into a monster of a good time. Check out THE DO LAB, who are putting this together at www.thedolab.com Some of my favorite memories of parties were at Lightning in a Bottle! It was the first party that I spun outside of a living room, I fell in love with a hooping goddess, I got food poisoning (from myself) and spent six hours of last year vomiting in a bush, only to turn up at the last minute before my 1am set and lay down one of my most-bangin'est sets EVER, on and on and on etc etc etc. Four great years of memories! I hope that all or most of you can come out and share PART FIVE with me! Earlier Rumors |
